My first sculpting post!
+Whenever I was a child living in our first house, at around age six or seven….I had a horrible fear of a hole that was in my bedroom window. It was a large hole, but patched over so it wasn’t too loud or too annoying in the daytime….But at night, my bed was in a certain position near the window that whenever the wind would blow, the noise would sound like that of a monster hissing in my ear.
I began to truly fear this noise more than anything and convinced myself that at night, there was a translucent being floating in my room that had come in through the cracks of the patched window’s hole.
After a while, I began to imagine that the beast was sitting on top of my dresser, watching me. I covered myself up in the blankets and hid from him.

+After a while I began to have nightmares that I was sucked out of my bedroom through the hole and into a terrible dark maze where there was no escape. Throughout the confusion of the walls and long runways- the translucent beast was haunting me, his glowing blue and white form was a ghost that would surely eat me alive if I stopped running through the maze long enough to catch my breath.
+Needless to say, when I got older and read the Greek tale of the Minotaur I was completely fascinated that I had dreamed of a monster in a maze whenever I was a child. I became a bit of a Greek Mythology fan at the age of nine and since then the minotaur myth has always been close to my heart.

+When I first started sculpting, my original inspiration was a Greek Goddess that I did for a history project. I sculpted Artemis, goddess of the wilds….my favorite Greek goddess. After sculpting this many people were really responsive to the little sculpture and told me I should try doing more. So I did…my next project was a Minotaur. I don’t have any photos of my original Minotaur, unfortunately it got so old and I took with me to so many art shows that it broke apart and eventually crumbled to shreds. I was heartbroken.

+A few months ago I began a new Minotaur, who is currently in production…i’m messing around with the ideas I have in my head for this one. My last one was what one could call “scary realistic” and for this one i’m going more storybook style. He looks a little goofy in this stage, which makes me sad, haha. I’ll post more photos as I progress him. Today I tore his horns off and re-did them.
Mine isn’t to the stature of cool as the previous two minotaurs but trust me, it’s a work in progress! My new minotaur will be COOL.
+A quick note to leave on….There is a book out that is really quite amazing. If you love horror stories or just mysteries, you might want to check out House of Leaves….It’s a book about a Minotaur in a house that has no end…It is one of the most original novels i’ve ever read…Totally and completely unconventional in every way…the story will confuse and entangle you. And to top it off? It’s actually quite terrifying!!! Check it out on amazon <<
